Los Angeles - Day Seven (Disneyland)

Our final day in Los Angeles was spent visiting the first and original Disney theme park, Disneyland. It was the only park built under direct supervision of Walt Disney, opening in July 1955. The level of detail in the scenery is amazing but the park rides are, as you would expect, very family oriented and hence not quite up to the thrill levels we've seen at previous parks...

Upon entering the park you are greeted by Main Street USA, an area based on a Midwest town in the early 20th century

Adventureland (Indiana Jones Adventure)

Haunted House

Disney also was home to a haunted house ride - to say it was tame would be an understatement...

The haunted house - doesn't look to haunted from the outside...

The inside of the house - again showing the level of detail that Disney put into their rides

Space Mountain

An indoor space themed coaster - one of the better rides at Disneyland

Star Tours

A ride based on the Star Wars film franchise. Riders are boarding Star Tours for a tour of the Star Wars universe. Another excellent ride...

Big Thunder Mountain

A mine themed roller coaster built in 1979. The scenery is very impressive but the ride itself is somewhat tame...

Matterhorn Bobsleds

A bobsled rollercoaster - not a bad ride but a bit rough on the neck with tight sharp turns

The Matterhorn ride scenery, based on the Switzerland mountain of the same name

Petting Zoo

Disneyland also, to Dave's delight, featured a petting zoo...

Dave gets acquainted with one of the many goats - they all seemed very docile and chilled, maybe due to the heat...

Another goat

The final goat, once again modelling a fetching chin patch. Dave still refuses to grow his to match - a great shame in my opinion!

...And Finally

One of the more impressive themed zone was Micky's Toontown, which contains rides aimed at younger children
