Boston - Day One (Six Flags New England)

For our first day in Boston we visited a nearby amusement park, Six Flags New England. It was a scorcher of a day, with temperatures in excess of 25C...

Six Flags New England is somewhat smaller than Cedar Point but it still has its fair share of good rides.

Entrance area of the park
Thunderbolt

The oldest roller coaster in the park, built in 1941. The wooden roller coaster lasts for 1 minute and travels at speeds of up to 40 mph. The coaster is a bit rough on the neck and back...

Flashback

The Flashback is a short coaster where the train is pulled backwards up the lift hill (as seen here), then dropped through the loading gate through a cobra roll and then one loop and up the other side (to the right here).

The train then goes backwards into the loading station.

Goliath

A similar idea to the Flashback but with different type of track and seats. This picture shows the train in the pre launch position

Bizarro

Bizarro is considered one of the best roller coasters in the world. It rides at speeds of up to 77 mph, features drops of up to 221 ft (67 m) and lasts for just over 2 1/2 minutes.

Bizarro has been voted the number one steel roller coaster in the world in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards five times since the year 2003, and has only been ranked lower than number two once since it opened. Bizarro has switched the top position with Millennium Force at Cedar Point (see Cedar Point post for more info) five times in the last eleven years. Bizarro has also been voted the number one steel roller coaster in the Mitch Hawker Best Roller Coaster Poll seven times since 2001.
